Peloton App Review
Streaming Platform: Peloton App
Cost: 12.99/month (basic membership)
Trial Period: First 2 months free
Description: With the Peloton App, you have the option to browse through hundreds of different classes that vary in class type, length, level, and instructor as well as the option to join live workouts. Classes that don’t require specific Peloton equipment (like bikes and treadmills) include full body and targeted Strength, Pilates, Barre, HIIT Cardio, Outdoor running and walking, Yoga, Stretching, and Meditation. If you have access to a stationary bike or treadmill, you can also use those Peloton specific classes and modify accordingly, however we did not review those classes.
When choosing a class, you can filter by type of class, length, level, and instructor allowing you to tailor your workouts to what works best for you. Each class provides a description of recommended equipment and a playlist to ensure that you are prepared for a good sweat. Instructors vary based on class selection but each workout feels like you have a personal trainer right in your home to help guide you throughout each workout, including modifications as needed. This simple and seamless platform is easy to use and designed to be completed outside of the studio, making your home workout regimen that much more accessible!
Overall Vibe: The Peloton App is all about high energy and community. Each instructor is super encouraging, consistently emphasizes body positivity, and pushes you to be your best self. Each workout is unique, but overall Peloton emphasizes having fun and making the most out of each workout.
Length: Varies based on class (ranges from 10 - 60 minutes).
Intensity: 2/10 – 8/10—varies based on class type and equipment but very doable for all levels. If you’re looking for low impact we recommend Pilates, Barre, Yoga, and Outdoor walking. For high impact we recommend HIIT Cardio, Strength (full body), and Outdoor running.
Sweat Level: 2/10 – 8/10—varies based on class type and length but if you’re looking for a good sweat we recommend HIIT Cardio and 45 minute Strength classes.
Equipment: Strength (most classes use light, medium, and heavy weights of your choosing), Pilates (yoga mat and blocks), Barre (yoga mat, ankle weights, and home props like chairs if needed), HIIT Cardio (ranges from no equipment to hand weights), Outdoor running and walking (a good pair of running shoes), Yoga and Stretching (yoga mat, blocks, yoga rope), Meditation (no equipment).
*Even though each class provides a recommended list of equipment, you can still get a great workout in with modifications, minimal equipment, and using home props (like chairs or even canned foods as light hand weights!)
Pros: The 2 month free trial is unheard of in the virtual space and something we absolutely loved (monthly price is also very affordable). It allows you to spend adequate time navigating the app to ensure you like what they have to offer before committing. Class variety and length allows you to tailor your workouts to your liking which sets you up for success. The instructors brought so much energy to each workout and their emphasis on body positivity and loving yourself is something that we are here for!
Cons: Although the app provides plenty of variety, Pilates, Barre, and Yoga have fewer class options so something to be aware of if you prefer low impact.
Is it worth it? For the price, variety, and ability to workout from home absolutely!
